Interview Follow-Up Email Template

A concise UK interview follow-up email that thanks the interviewer, reinforces fit and asks about next steps without overselling.

By LandTheRole Editorial Reviewed 23 July 2026 Our editorial method

The short answer

Send a brief thank-you within one working day when it feels appropriate, then wait for the stated decision date. Reference one substantive part of the conversation rather than repeating your pitch.

The message is professional closure, not another interview answer. It should confirm interest, make the conversation memorable and respect the process.

A practical way to approach it

Reference something real

Mention a challenge, priority or question discussed. Generic gratitude adds little signal.

Keep persuasion proportionate

One sentence connecting relevant evidence is enough. Do not attach unsolicited work or reopen every answer.

Separate thanks from chasing

A thank-you can be sent promptly. A timeline follow-up should wait until the promised date passes.

Subject: Thank you — Senior Operations Manager Hello Priya, Thank you for today’s conversation. Learning how the team is balancing regional autonomy with one service standard made the role particularly tangible, and it connects closely with the redesign work we discussed. I remain very interested. Please let me know if any further information would be useful. Best, Alex

Draft, record and follow up without losing the context of the application.

Questions people ask

Is a thank-you email expected in the UK?

It varies and is rarely decisive. Send one when it adds genuine professional closure, not because you believe it is mandatory.

Should I email every interviewer?

If you have their details and distinct conversations, brief individual messages can work. Otherwise thank the organiser and ask them to pass on your appreciation.

What if I forgot an important point?

Add one concise clarification only when it materially affects suitability. Avoid turning the email into an extra written interview.
